– An exploration of memory through the reconstruction of space and time

What is memory? Where do memories go when you’re not having them? Much like Descartes problem of spirit and body, Henri Bergson proposed a theory of memory that bridges the philosophical divide. Memory is a window or a doorway from which the spirit passes and experiences the present. In this way, memory is always reflective and always contemplating on the present from its position in the past.
This group exhibition explores the many pathways in the mind, or waves of consciousness that are a constant state of being and fundamental to memory experience. From a single moment in space and time to the depths of our subconscious, whether it be a person or in a place, all are passages to a time past but not lost. Just as Bergson believed memory to be of a deeply spiritual nature, so too are the artworks in this exhibit.
Join us at Brockton Collective on Thursday, May 23rd to experience works by Cameron Chalmers, Savina Ioannou, Andre Kan, Tess Miller, Kyle Scheurmann, Adam Chapman, Megan Dearlove, Emily Brown, Morgan Abenheim and Matt Waples in the pursuit of “pure memory,” that which is not internal to the body, but of the spirit.
