In this body of work PAULO explores the concepts of instilling positive nostalgic feelings to the viewer through imagery he has captured on his travels. He believes that the imagery can act as a trigger for thoughts and memories that have happened or will happen in due time.
Paulo has been a traditional photographer since his teenage years developing his own work. In the last decade he made the leap to digital Photography. Please join us Thursday April 24th for his Toronto debut and his first digital photography exhibit consisting of images from his travels such as textures, landscapes and icons.
The world is not only my oyster, it is my inspiration; I do not view it simply in terms of black and white, but inundated and dappled with color.
I remember my homeland of Angola, Africa as being a vast and bold space with striking magenta sunsets, infinite blue seas, lush green forests, endless golden savannahs and possessed of the most dangerous, yet captivating, wildlife. For me, shades of grey emerged from a hail of war’s bullets which forced me, terrified for my life, to flee. I will never forget that day, nor will I forget its predecessors.
I have many beautiful pictures from there, my sorrow is that they all remain within my memories. In coming to Canada, I resolved to capture my new journeys through photography. Print is my preferred medium of capturing moments in this magnificent world that, under no circumstances, do I ever wish to leave behind again.
I understand from my loss that I was meant to capture and share the world as I see it; to bestow it as a legacy to my family, friends, fans and those that follow. I invite you to walk in my steps, to trace my path and experience the many splendours, textures and surrealism of life which is hidden in plain sight.
